tightened, the wheels must not be in contact with the
ground.

Checking outer constant velocity joint
Joint must be dismantled to renew grease if heavily soiled or to
check contact surfaces of balls for wear and damage.

ball cage -2- and joint body -1- with an electric scriber or oil
stone.
– Swing ball hub -3- and ball cage -2-.

– Turn ball cage -2- until the two rectangular windows -arrow-
rest against joint body.
– Take out cage -2- with hub -3-.
– Swing segment of hub into square cage window.
– Tip hub -1- out of cage -2-.
The 6 balls for each joint belong to a tolerance group. Check
stub axle, hub, cage and balls for small indentations (pitting)
and traces of seizing. Excessive circumferential backlash in the
joint is noticeable during load change jolts. In this case, the joint
must be renewed. Smoothing and traces of wear of the balls are
no reason to change the joint.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– Pack half of total grease quantity (40 g) into joint body.
– Fit cage with hub into joint body.
– Press in opposing balls one after the other; the original posi‐
tion of the hub relative to the cage and joint body must be
restored.
– Fit new retaining ring into hub.
– Distribute remaining grease in boot.
